Fell

Fell running is a running discipline that involves racing out on the moors and mountains.  Races vary in distance from short junior races, through to full off-road marathon distances.  Not for the faint-hearted, the terrain can be quite harsh, but the views are usually worth the effort!

In winter, runners are usually required to carry compulsory kit, such as hat, gloves, and full waterproof body cover.  In some instances you may also have to carry a map, compass and whistle. The Halifax Harriers fell league is open to junior and senior runners, and details of qualifying races can be found on the Junior and Senior fell racing pages. Details of races can be found on the FRA website, though we advise all our fell runners to join the excellent FRA, which provides you with the FRA Handbook detailing all races, and the superb ‘Fellrunner’ Magazine.

Details of the current standings in the club fell championships can now be found on the junior and senior fell pages.

Congratulations to Joe Crossfield and Molly Traviss!
Joe Crossfield continues to perform brilliantly on the fells, this time winning the Hellifield Gala Fell Race on Saturday 4th August.  Joe was 1st in a time of 26.27 for the 3.5m 800' race. Well done Joe....surely we can get a few more talented runners out onto the fells to support Joe and our small handful of fell runners??!!

Molly is another of our fell superstars and now has represented Yorkshire on the fells.  Molly came 5th in the U16 Womens race at Goyt Valley on 19th May, in a time of 37.50.  Well done Molly!!

Molly proudly wears her Yorkshire vest!
