Race Route
The 'Tour of Norland Moor' is a great introduction to fell running, and starts/finishes from the excellent new facilities of Copley Cricket Club. The race start area is just a few minutes jog away from the cricket club, on the bridge over the River Calder next to the church.
All the hard work is done at the start as the race climbs up North Dean Road (a rough paved bridletrack). After approx 600m there is a 180 degree left turn (at the rocks to stop vehicles), and then a marshalled right turn up the bridleway that after about 800m meets Turbury Lane.
A marshalled right turn and approx 600m of road (Turbury Lane) leads you to the partially flagged 2.9 mile clockwise loop of Norland Moor….don't forget to take in the great views at this point! You enter and leave Norland Moor at the same point, and this area is marshalled.
Upon leaving the moor, you turn right and retrace your steps for a few yards, before taking a left turn back down through some fields, all flagged. Those of you familiar with Calderdale Way Relay Leg 1 will recognize this field, though today you'll be running the 'wrong way' down it.
Then it's through a stile, following a path through the woods, and then you run back down North Dean Road (the bridletrack you ran up at the start).
When you get to the bridge over the river (where the race started), you take a left turn through a gap in the wall, and follow the path next to the river for approx 400m, go under the railway viaduct, and then turn right into Copley CC and the finish area. Enjoy it!
