Stoodley Pike Fell Race
By Chris Burrell
Success for Halifax Harriers Juniors at the Stoodley Pike Fell race
Once again the Harriers juniors excelled at the Todmorden Harriers organised Stoodley Pike fell race. The race starts in Lumbutts above Todmorden and follows a well worn footpath towards the pike itself, which soon turns onto a rocky path. Once at the pike a sharp left turn is taken down a steep descent to London road where precious time can be made up or lost. Once at the bottom, the route flattens out which is much more comfortable for the knees, and continues into a fast finish back into Lumbutts.
Brad Traviss was the first Halifax man home in a tremendous time of 20.18 in fifth place overall, pushing the leaders all the way. He was very closely followed by Joe Crossfield in seventh place in 20.45. Joe's dad Nigel was next home in 25.11. Debutants to the race, Richard Nichols and Sarah Hutchins put in fantastic times of 25.43 and 26.10 respectively. Rounding off the Halifax contingency was the ever present Chris Burrell in 29.56.
The race was won by Tom Adams from Ilkley in 19.09 followed by 190 weary souls.
