Littleborough 5k Road race – Wednesday 31st March 2010

14 Harriers travelled to Littleborough to run in the 2nd 5k road race of a series run by Andy O’Sullivan MBE and assisted by Rochdale harriers. It’s a tough testing little course with a long steady climb of about a mile up to Hollingworth lake, along the lake side and then a long decent into the finish by the railway station in Littleborough. With a field of 207 runners it’s a popular race and produces some very fast times.

Winner of the race both last week and this was Rochdale Harrier Matthew Proctor in 15 mins 56 seconds just seconds slower than last week but last night conditions were not as good – windy ,cold and some sleet. But our Junior Harrier under 16 year old Sam Kerfoot Roberts was again 2nd overall as last week but ran much fast knocking 11 seconds off his previous time and just 3 seconds behind the winner in a fantastic time of 15.59.

Following Sam was in form Harrier Ben Crowther in 3rd place, knocking 23 seconds off last week in 16.14. These two Harriers are showing great form and ones to watch in the future.

In 8th place was our top marathon man Ian Whitehouse 1st veteran 40 with a good run in 16.47 . He was pleased as he was hoping for under 17 mins.

Geoff Cumber, Dene Townend and Junior under 17 Gareth Burrell had a tussle with only seconds separating the three. Geoff was in 43rd place in 19.18, Dene 44th in 19.19 and Gareth 46th in 19.21.

A nice pub with sandwiches and soup followed by the presentation ended a great night for the harriers. Well done to all of you.
