Ben takes Silver at City Centre 10k race

Eleven Halifax Harriers made the trip to The Epilepsy Action Bradford 10K road race, this last Sunday the 21st March. With the start time at 09:00 it was always going to be tough getting up to speed on this relatively flat out and back course. The course was recently voted the fourth best in Britain for running a personal best and almost perfect conditions on Sunday put this to the test.
1000 runners were at the start line varying from serious club runners to ‘It will be good to finish’ Charity runners. There was quite a steep slope at the start which took your breath away but once out of the city on to Canal road you were able to stretch out and enjoy the Sunday morning traffic free roads. This was an out and back route with a head wind between 6 to 8km which meant you just had to dig a bit deeper and look forward to the waiting, cheering crowds in the city centre.
Ben Crowther was first home for the Harriers with a time of 34:04 in an excellent Second place, he has been showing good form all through the Cross Country season and his talent is really coming to the fore, I am sure we will see more great running from him in the future.
Second Harrier home in 53rd place was Club Chairman Mark Gaughan in a time of 40:13, only 13 seconds from the elusive sub 40 10k. Other male Harrier Finishers were Phillip Whetlock 101st with 42:22; Luke Meleschko 106th with 42:33; Jamie Bush 120th with 43:11; Bill Sage 191st with 45:24; Frank Chislett 258th and 3rd placed M60+ with 47:13 and Spencer Priestley 289th with 47:58. Three Lady Harrier runners made the journey and first home was Joanne Kitcher with an impressive 294th place and 8th placed Lady with 48:11, next was Lorna McColl 755th and 72nd Lady with 1.01:48 and third was Donna Harland 800th and 159th Lady with 1.04:23.
This was another good turnout from our ever growing Local Club, with some fine individual performances.
