Gawsworth 10k
Gawgeous Gawsworth
...3 Years ago, Elizabeth (of the Sanderson variety) suggested trying a race in Cheshire...The Gawsworth 10k. ...scenic and oh what a lovely area..oh why not give it a go we thought!
After getting lost on the way there, through my slack map reading (my excuse was I can't look at a map too long as I feel sick!!)...we thoroughly enjoyed this crazy little event.
It's a multi terrain 10k+ run in the grounds of Gawsworth Hall, Cheshire.
Now, I'm quite well known to be a poor off road runner, so it may come as surprise that this race has now become a firm favourite!
Geoff and I decided to run it again this year (Sunday 13th September). Even though I wasn't feeling great and Geoff was feeling pretty tired, we set off with intrepidation but ended up having a wonderful race! By pure chance we almost ran the whole race together....4k on country lanes, followed by 2k Canal Bank, then over a bridge, 2k through the woods, over a stile, through a field, 1k on a country road and through a hilly field to the finish. The weather was so kind to us that the race was just pure bliss!
The mayor of Gawsworth sets off the race and at the end, greets you all back with a medal...it's rather lovely!...(and a tad posh!)
There's also a family fun run and 5k..so something for everyone. We really recommend it.
The bonus was coming away with a huge tin of Roses (courtesy of Geoff Cumber) and a pb to boot!
Ps...Thanks Elizabeth!
Pps ...I'm rather a big chocolate fan by the way.
