Rebecca & Hannah, Yorkshire multi-events championship

The Halifax Harrier's were doubly represented at the recent Yorkshire Multi-Events Championships held at Doncaster's Keepmoat Stadium.

Rebecca Sullivan and Hannah Walker both competed in the Under 15 Girls Pentathlon, an event comprising 75m hurdles, long jump, high jump, shot putt and 800m. Rebecca acquitted herself with great credit to win the silver medal behind the runaway winner Bethany Porter from Wakefield. Strong performances in the high jump (1.46m) and 800m (2.33.1) seeing Rebecca climb rapidly through the field from the halfway point, finishing with a total points tally of 2382.

Hannah's total of 2201 was enough for her to finish fifth, no mean feat considering she was still only twelve on the day of the competition and won't be at the top end of the age group for another two years. A weak shot putt left her a long way behind the leaders after four events but, with Rebecca in the same 800m heat, the pair of them combined to put considerable distance between themselves and the other girls, Hannah's time of 2.32.8 bagging her a whopping 658 pts.
