Gifted & talented athlete workshops

Brian Burgin with the young athletes

Youngsters from Ravenscliffe School took advantage of Calderdale being the first area in the country to work with UKAthletics in putting together a workshop for identifying Gifted and Talented Athletes with a Physical or Sensory impairment during a day of activities both at the school and Spring Hall athletics track.

The aim of the partnership will allow pupils to be targeted for future training in an effort to give them the opportunity to take part, and hopefully succeed, in future Olympic games.

Working closely with Brian Burgin from Halifax Harriers and Zandra Puddephatt (SSCO at Ravenscliffe High School and Sports College) athletes have been identified and schools from across Yorkshire have been invited to recieve the training from ex Paralympian Shelley Quarin.

"It is a fantastic opportunity and great for Calderdale that we are the first in the country to be working with UKAthletics to provide the opportunity for all athletes whatever their ability to achieve," said Mrs Puddephatt.
