Club of the year 2009
Halifax Harriers were awarded the title of UK's Best Running Club 2009 at an awards ceremony in London hosted by Runners World Magazine.
This is the second year the award has been given in which hundreds of the UK's running clubs had been considered.
There were 7 categories against each club was measured on including membership recruitment, individual achievements, community initiatives and race organisation. Mark Ward the UK country manager for New Balance, sponsors of the award said that Halifax Harriers had excelled in every area and gave particular mention to the membership growth, the fact that 75% of members were under the age of 20 and that the club had an obvious community spirit in hosting 6 quality races each year.
The event, held at the Imperial War Museum was hosted by the 2000 Olympic bronze medalist Katharine Merry with a host of other athletic celebrities including double Olympic gold medalist Dame Kelly Holmes.
This is a tremendous achievement in our 125th anniversary year and Nigel Rigg was honoured to receive this award on behalf of the club and the Town.
