Sunday 10th October 2010

The first race of the West Yorkshire Cross Country Championships was held at Nunroyd Park Leeds on Sunday 10th October.

The conditions were good nice and sunny and Halifax Harriers had 38 runners in all the age groups from u11 to senior runners.

U11 boys had 2 runners William Strange came 23rd (8.44). Olliver Bullick was 28th (9.05).

In the u11 girl’s race Halifax had 6 runners with Elicia Mcadam coming in 3rd place, which was a remarkable result considering this was her first race at this level.

Other placings were Sinead Pearson 16th (9.27). Annie Stone 19th (9.31).

Lucy Mills 27th (10.06).

Louise Chapman 29th (10.11). Rebecca Leach 34th (11.0). The top 4 runners count for team placing and Halifax came 4th overall which was a very good result. Keep up the good work girls and your results will improve.

In the u13 boys team we had 3 runners Micheal Sylvester 13th (15.33). Mathew Cowton 18th (16.06). Martin Howard 28th (17.03). Unfortunately only 3 runners, which did not count for a team result but a good performance from the boys with 48 runners participating.

The u13 girl’s team performed really well with top runner Molly Travis in 6th (10.03) and Megan Berriman coming 7th (10.04) in her first W.Y.C.C.C was outstanding as this was her first race in this event.

Amy Cowton was 44th (12.20), Amy was entered for the u11 race but because her birthday was on Saturday Amy had to run with u13s which was a bit daunting for her, but came in a creditable 44th place out of 50 runners.

Halifax was 5th in the team results.

Halifax had 3 runners in the u15 boys race Max Wharton 2nd (15.13) Jarome Castelow 9th (15.56) Adam Whitelaw 29th (29.17). Once again Wharton showed his class again with his second position and again Castelow cements his place among the top 10 runners in West Yorkshire in these events.
