Senior Training Groups

Training is from Spring Hall Athletics Track, Huddersfield Road, Halifax. Track speed training is available every Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00pm. We have a number of groups suitable for all abilities from beginners to fast runners.

There are track and field seniors as well as the road running groups below. New athletes. or athletes returning to the sport after time away, are most welcome to come along to train and eventually compete in Track and Field meetings.

BEGINNERS GROUP. Leaders Audra and David

7:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays

If you have already started to do some jogging. This is the group for you. We will run/walk initially for about 2 to 3 miles.

Aiming to increase the distance gradually up to 4 miles. The pace will be slow.

GROUP 1. Leaders David and Audra

7:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays

If you are confident in running 4 miles or more you are welcome to come down on any training night.

Training runs are approximately 3 to 5 miles to suit the group, with an average pace of 12 minutes/mile.

Suitable for anyone running a 10k in 63 minutes plus, or a 5k in 30 minutes plus.

GROUP 2. Leader Deborah

Other leaders are Jude, Jenny, Joanne, Colleen and Martin

7:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Runs are at a steady pace for the runner who would like to build stamina, speed and confidence. 

Training runs are approximately 5.5 to 6.5 miles with short stops throughout the run to re-group as required, with an average pace of 10 minutes/mile.

Suitable for anyone running a 58 - 62 minutes 10k.

GROUP 3. Leader Chris

Other leaders are Michelle, Joanne, Sarah, Jonny, Margaret, Paul and Jenny

7:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays

Runs are at a faster pace for the runner who are regularly  entering races and are looking to improve their speed and endurance. Training runs are approximately 6.5 to 7.5 miles with stops to re-group as required, with an average pace of 9 minutes/mile

Suitable for anyone running a sub 58 minute 10k.

GROUP 4. Leader Raymond

Other leaders are Rachael and Marc

7:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays

This group is for intermediate level runners.Training will be aimed at improving 10k and half marathon times. Runs are approximately 7.5 to 9 miles with stops to re-group as required. The average pace will be 8 minutes/mile

Tuesday is track based training at Spring Hall in the summer and with the option of road circuits in the winter.

Suitable for anyone running a 10k in 48 mins or faster

GROUP 5. Leader Sarah

Other leaders are Ryan, Steve, Craig and Paul

7:00pm on Tuesdays for track work/road circuits and 6:00pm Thursdays for road/trails

Tuesday is track or road circuits and Thursday is out on the road or trails at a steady / fast pace for the competitive runner. (Suitable for all distances from 10k to marathons).

Thursdays runs are about 9 miles with stops to re-group as required at an average pace of 7 to 7:30 minutes/mile.

Suitable for anyone running a 10k in 45 minutes or faster.
